Title: GIFTS: Great Ideas For Teaching Success in Astro 101

Dr. Blanco has been teaching “Astro 101” and its associated laboratory class for 12 years, and will lead a discussion on: (1) which learning strategies work best with students, whose expectations and abilities are constantly changing (in some ways for the better!); and (2) which strategies work best for YOU, the instructor, taking into account your unique skills and personality. We shall carry out an example of “peer instruction” for a common Astro 101 topic.

The discussion is geared for those who teach, or someday expect to teach, introductory astronomy – but all are welcome to participate.  Please be prepared to contribute either one teaching tip that works well for you or one “challenge” that we can address as a group.
