On Monday, April 8, 2024 a 100-mile wide strip of North America experienced a total solar eclipse, visible from San Diego as a partial eclipse.

The San Diego State University Astronomy Department and Schwartz Astronomical Society organized a community gathering, providing telescopes equipped with solar filters, eclipse glasses, and solar binoculars for safe observation of the eclipse.

Check out the gallery on the College of Sciences site for snapshots of students, faculty and staff from across campus taking part in this astronomical event, which won’t happen again until 2045!
